Descripción

Start your tour from the famous Eleftherios Venizelos Monument, located in the historic Aristotelous Square. The former Prime Minister of Greece, who took some monumental decisions that affected the country during the 20th century, has also played a significant role in some events that proved critical for Thessaloniki. From there, you will continue to the Agios Dimitrios Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and also the largest church in the city. Dedicated to the patron saint of the same name and restored after a devastating fire in 1917, the church has retained some remarkable features that are integral from a historical and artistic standpoint.

Next on the itinerary is one of the most important Roman monuments of the city - the Rotunda (aka Church of Agios Georgios). Known for its distinct cylindrical structure, the Rotunda was built by the Roman tetrarch Galerius in 306 AD, with the intention of making it his grave. In the beginning, the monument served as a temple, but the God to whom it was dedicated still remains a mystery. Just next to the Rotunda, you will find the famous Arch of Galerius (known today as "Kamara"). It celebrates the victory of Galerius against Persians between 298 and 305 A.D.

Move on to the Sintrivani Square, where you will be greeted by a beautiful fountain. It is a replica of the original fountain, which was a generous gift from Sultan Abdul Hamid to the citizens. Fun fact - Cherry sorbet had spouted from the fountain on the day of its inauguration. Makes you wish you had been there, doesn't it?

Stop by the Alexander the Great Monument, the famous King of ancient Macedon who was fortunate enough to be educated by the great philosopher Aristotle. The last stop for the day is the most famous landmark of the city, the White Tower. Irrevocably connected to the city's past, it offers fantastic views of the city and the Thermaic Gulf. The 15th-century monument houses a museum that depicts the city's history and culture from its founding days till the present.
